The Yellowstone-to-Yukon Data Library

A collaborative agreement has been reached between Montana State University (MSU) and CERI that will provide all faculty, students and area scientists with reliable access to one central source for Yellowstone to Yukon research information.  Using the database, MSU/Y2Y/CERI and other users will be able to track all relevant information pertaining to Yellowstone to Yukon by theme or by author, generate reports for analysis by specific geographical area, and publish their data.  Data input is centralized and simplified to avoid duplicates, separate data lists, or loss of data.  Data can be downloaded directly from a server at the Ecology Department of Montana State University.  Data to be submitted to the library will be sent to CERI where it will be reviewed and metadata will be checked for completion before being archived at MSU.  A duplicate of the library is maintained at MSU using a RAID system, and at CERI on a separate server.  The library can be accessed at Y2Ydata.MSU.Montana.edu.

Funding to set up and maintain the Data Library comes primarily from private foundations through grants to CERI or the Y2Y Science Program.  Costs to Montana State University are funded either as contracts with CERI or as direct donations to MSU. Database Maintenance and Archival of the data will be done at the CERI offices and then transferred to the server at MSU . Routine data management and security will require some MSU staff and faculty time and may be primarily done by work-study students.

The data library contains base spatial data plus the results of modeling and other analyses such as the examples on the right above.
