Conservation Planning for the Robson Valley, British Columbia

In June 2005 we began the fine-scale analysis of key areas in British Columbia. We visited the areas which our broad-scale modeling had indicated to be key core and corridors for wildlife. The site visits, together with discussions with stakeholders and broad-scale mapping results guided our decision to focus initially on 4 areas of connectivity around a large core area that is centered on Wells Gray Provincial Park.

Part of this area is shown in this map of Old Growth
management areas and regions that the BC
government considers to be Wildlife Corridors.
One of the areas we feel is most critical for connectivity is the 'corridor' across the Robson Valley between McBride and Prince George. CERI began the process to acquire many of the necessary data layers beginning in July after examining BC data to find data sets that are most compatible across the border. We have requested BC government data: FIP and VRI datasets for the Forest Districts that we wish to work in initially.

This fine-scale project area is part of the Prince George, Quesnel, and the Headwaters Forest Districts.
